Zepla Under Fire

Zepla, or Xepla on Twitter and zeplahq on Twitch, has come under fire recently for her response to a viewer's comment on her stream. On 2/13/2023 Zepla began streaming Hogwarts: Legacy on her twitch channel. The game has been heavily scrutinized by the Jewish and transgender communities for depicting anti-semitsim themes & supporting the Harry Potter creator's anti-trans bigotry.

Twitter user Lix commented during this livestream to give the content creator her view on the game & why it was upsetting to see Zepla playing it.

"JK Rowling is not the only person who will receive money on the proceeds of this game. She will receive royalties but everybody who was involved in the development of this game will get money from it. I don't know why you, uh, haven't drawn the conclusion [...] I don't think it's fair to draw the conclusion that people, uh, buying this game is a direct line of cause and effect that leads to direct harm. We talked about this for like an hour already. Living in f-dah... I just don't think that we should, uh, we should not be living in fear. We should not be antagonizing each other over silly, silly, stupid things." - Zepla

Zepla's response to the comment garnered immediate pushback from her fanbase who did not agree with her opinion or her response. Others, too, have called her out for being hypocritical.

The streamer is continuing to receive criticism for doubling down on her response & using the war in Ukraine to put the situation "in perspective". When she was called out on it, this is what she had to say:

Asmongold

Popular commentor & streamer Asmongold had something to say about the situation, and included commentary on it in one of his livestreams. During the stream he referred to and showcased a twitter comment without obscuring the Twitter user's name. This Twitter user later reported an influx of vitriol, hate, and threats from Asmongold's viewer base.

The online community is calling out for Asmongold to treat his massive viewer base with responsibility, stating that he has a duty to take the proper measures to reduce targeted attacks. This was his response:

This has only fanned the flames of discourse between the Zepla and Asmongold drama. Many Twitter users are stressing the importance of listening to the transgender & Jewish communities when they speak up about the difficulties they face everyday. Many other Twitter users have voiced that Hogwarts: Legacy is only a game & that people shouldn't be offended by others playing it.
